Landscape Architecture & Design

Although landscape architecture and landscape design both focus on improving outdoor spaces, they differ in scope, training, and the types of projects they typically handle.

Landscape Architecture

Landscape Architecture Landscape architecture is typically broader and more technical in scope. Landscape architects are trained and certified and licensed to design larger and more complex environments such as parks, commercial developments, public spaces, and large residential properties. Their work often involves site planning, grading, drainage, environmental considerations, and coordination with architects, engineers, and local regulations.

Landscape Design

Landscape design focuses primarily on the visual layout and functionality of outdoor spaces. A landscape designer plans elements such as plantings, lawns, patios, walkways, lighting, and garden features to create an attractive and usable environment. These projects are often residential and smaller in scale, with an emphasis on aesthetics, comfort, and how the space will be used day-to-day.

How They Work Together

In many projects, landscape design and landscape architecture complement each other. Landscape architecture may shape the overall structure and functionality of the site, while landscape design refines the details — such as plant selections, garden layouts, and aesthetic elements — to create a beautiful, finished space.

By combining both disciplines, outdoor environments can be designed to be functional, sustainable, and visually appealing. Haase Landscape offers both Landscape Architecture and Landscape Design services, allowing us to create customized plans that fit the unique needs and goals of every project.
